Kavita Oberoi, founder of Derby-based Oberoi Consulting and star of Channel Four’s Secret Millionaire show, has shown her support for derby’s bid to host group stage matches during the 2018 World Cup.
Cities around the country are currently forming their strategies to secure the games in a bid to secure some of the prestige and increased numbers of visitors and business opportunities they would bring.
Successful cities could benefit from up to £200 million of investment between now and the event.
Oberoi told the Derby Telegraph: "This is just what the city needs to put us on the worldwide map – and what an opportunity it would be for local businesses.
“Derby is a perfect place to hold the World Cup and it would encourage further future investment in the city."
Other cities vying to host World Cup matches are Birmingham, Bristol, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle and Gateshead, Nottingham, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Sheffield and Sunderland.
