Seal of approval for Castleward

The redevelopment of a street linking Derby’s railway station to the city centre has been given the thumbs-up by residents and train passengers.

Resurfacing work, the creation of new pavements and carriageways, and the installation of new seating and lighting are the first steps on the way to the wider regeneration of the Castleward area.

When complete, the Castleward project will see a boulevard created between Midland Place and Traffic Street, and the development of an urban village.

Christine Lee, development projects officer for the council, said: "The new area has a nice, open feel to it and it is very inviting.

"The work has cleaned up and smartened up the area and the developers have done a fantastic job."

John Cadwallader, chief executive of urban regeneration company Derby Cityscape, said: "It's good to see the first phase complete and we can now look forward as the development comes closer to completion."
